The Macallan Thirties Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Low stock - 1 item left
The Macallan Thirties is a re-creation of the 1930s style of The Macallan, bottled at 40% in a 500ml format. The Macallan Master Distiller sampled bottles from the decade and matched their aroma and flavour with more recent distillations taken from casks maturing in the distillery’s warehouses. The result is a Highland single malt with apples, citrus and peat smoke, peatier and less spicy than modern day Macallan.
The Macallan Thirties Tasting Notes
Nose: Light apples and citrus, malty with floral notes and hints of resinous spice, wrapped in a rich peaty envelope.
Palate: Peat smoke, apples, citrus orange and spice.
Finish: Peat smoke and fruit.
Why Choose The Macallan Thirties Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky?
The Thirties shows a side of The Macallan the modern range does not. It is peat-led and lightly spiced, with fruit running underneath. Presented in its original box.
What makes The Macallan Thirties different from modern Macallan?
The label gives two reasons. In the 1930s coal was in short supply as industrial activity increased, so The Macallan reverted to drying barley over peat fires. Oak sherry casks were also scarce because of the Spanish Civil War. Together these produced a whisky both peatier and less spicy than modern day Macallan.
