The Macallan Forties Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Low stock - 1 item left
The Macallan Forties is a re-creation of the 1940s style of The Macallan, bottled at 40% in a 500ml format. The Master Distiller sampled bottles from the decade and matched their aroma and flavour with more recent distillations from casks maturing in the distillery’s warehouses. The result is a Highland single malt with fresh apples, strong peat smoke and a nutty, woody finish, less spicy and peatier than modern day Macallan.
The Macallan Forties Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich apples with strong peat smoke, complemented with floral and fragrant notes. Subtle dried fruit aromas and hints of resinous spice add a degree of complexity.
Palate: Rich peat smoke with fresh apples, woody and slightly nutty.
Finish: Peaty and nutty with hints of wood.
Why Choose The Macallan Forties Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky?
The Forties is the lightest in colour of the four and among the most peat-forward.
What makes The Macallan Forties different from modern Macallan?
The Second World War shaped this whisky. Oak sherry casks were in short supply, so The Macallan refilled its casks more often than current practice. Combined with the use of peat to dry the barley, the label says this produced a whisky less spicy and peatier than modern day Macallan.
