The Macallan Edition No. 4, released in 2018, is the fourth instalment in the distillery’s sought-after annual Edition Series. Crafted by Master Distiller Nick Savage, this expression focuses on structure and balance, reflecting both the whisky’s complexity and the architectural design of The Macallan’s new distillery, which opened the same year. Matured in a selection of seven different cask types — 2nd fill refill butts, 2nd fill refill hogsheads, 1st fill Vasyma hogsheads, 1st fill Diego Martin casks, 1st fill Jose Y Miguel Martin butts, 1st fill Tevasa butts and puncheons, and 1st fill Tevasa hogsheads — it delivers richness and layered depth, bottled at 48.4% ABV.

The Macallan Distillery

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the world’s most prestigious single malt producers, celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to cask quality, natural colour, and craftsmanship. The Edition Series, running from 2015 to 2021, offered whisky lovers a unique opportunity to explore the influence of specific cask selections, collaborations, and concepts on flavour. Each one-off release has since become highly collectible, with Edition No. 4 notable for marking the opening of The Macallan’s iconic distillery and visitor experience.

The Macallan Edition No. 4 Tasting Notes

Nose: Bold honey and sweet apple, followed by orange zest, ginger, nutmeg, matured oak, green wood, and subtle florals.
Palate: Nutmeg, wood spice, and green cloves lead into sweet vanilla and a viscous mouth-coating richness.
Finish: Fruity with oaky sweetness, long and lasting.
