The SMWS Cask No. 138.2 Embraced by Peat is an extraordinarily rare single-cask single malt whisky released by the elite Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Adhering to the society's strict traditions of anonymity to avoid brand bias, it is presented in their signature dark green bottle displaying a poetic tasting title instead of the source name. The numerical code reveals its highly exotic origin: distillery 138 signifies Nantou, the acclaimed state-owned boutique distillery in Taiwan. Distilled on May 31, 2014, and matured for 5 years in a premium refill ex-bourbon barrel, this small outturn yielded only 214 bottles globally. Bottled completely undiluted at a powerful cask strength of 56.4% alcohol by volume with zero chill-filtration or artificial coloring, it offers collectors a pristine window into the hyper-accelerated wood extraction and tropical microclimate maturation of Taiwanese peated single malts.

Nose: Sweeter background notes of initial medicinal peat smoke, clean bandages, and sea spray balanced beautifully against ripe tropical pineapple, vanilla pod, and rich malted biscuit.

Palate: A thick, oily mouthfeel coating the palate with dominant layers of ash, soot, and dynamic warming pepper spices softened by sweet honey, over-ripe orchard fruits, and creamy toffee.

Finish: An exceptionally long, grand, and warming conclusion leaving complex traces of fine licorice, lingering wood smoke, dry oak tannins, and a final wave of salty brine.
