Benriach Curiositas Peated 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml
Curiositas is a discontinued Speyside single malt from Benriach distillery, matured for 10 years in bourbon and refill bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, natural colour. It was discontinued in 2020 when Benriach relaunched its core range, replacing it with the Smoky Ten β a related but reformulated expression using rum and virgin oak casks alongside bourbon, rather than an identical recipe.
Speyside whisky is generally unpeated. Benriach's peated style dates to the early 1970s by the distillery's own account, breaking from regional convention. Highland peat burns differently to Islay's maritime peat, producing smoke read as ash and earth rather than iodine and brine β layered here against Speyside's characteristic honey and orchard fruit.
Benriach Curiositas Peated 10 Year Old Tasting Notes.
Nose: Peat smoke and campfire ash, layered with orchard honey, green apple, and vanilla.
Palate: Full-bodied, with peat smoke, cinnamon, smoked apple wood, and honey.
Finish: Long, with cereal oils, wax, and a final trace of smoke.
Why Choose Benriach Curiositas Peated 10 Year Old?
Since its 2020 discontinuation, Curiositas is no longer sold through Benriach directly and exists only in remaining specialist and secondary stock. Its replacement, the Smoky Ten, carries the lineage forward with a different cask profile β so this bottle represents a specific, closed chapter of Benriach's peated whisky, distinct from what the distillery makes today.
What sets Benriach apart in Speyside whisky production?
Benriach is a Speyside distillery near Elgin, founded in 1898 and now owned by Brown-Forman. It produces unpeated, peated, and triple-distilled spirit within the same range β an unusually broad style for the region β and uses extensive cask finishing, including sherry, rum, and port.
