Why Choose Glenmorangie 13 Year Old Moscatel Cask?

This isn't a variation on an existing Glenmorangie release — it's a cask type the distillery had never filled before. The Moscatel parcel was originally set aside to inform the Nectar d'Or recipe, and only later judged distinctive enough to stand on its own. It was never sold outside Whisky Club membership and never released beyond Australia and New Zealand, so a bottle changing hands on the secondary market is the only route to it for most collectors. The age statement itself tells part of the story: most of the liquid is closer to sixteen years old than the thirteen on the label, a product of blending rules rather than anything understated about the whisky itself.
