Glenfarclas 70 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Low stock - 1 item left
The Glenfarclas 70 Year Old — Warehouse Edition is the oldest single malt Scotch whisky ever released by Glenfarclas, one of Scotland's last remaining family-owned distilleries. Distilled on 20 November 1953 and matured for seven decades in a first-fill sherry cask within Glenfarclas's traditional dunnage warehouses in Speyside, it was drawn from one of the last three surviving casks of that vintage and overseen by six successive distillery managers. Bottled non-chill-filtered with no added colouring at 42.9% ABV, only 262 bottles exist worldwide — a genuine piece of whisky history rather than just another ultra-aged release.
Glenfarclas 70 Year Old Tasting Notes
Nose: Soft and smooth, with gentle tannic undertones that never overwhelm. Opens with aromas of stewed fruits and traditional Scottish dumpling, followed by a delicate thread of Speyside peat drawn from the slopes of Ben Rinnes, adding a lightly earthy, smoky nuance, before deepening into layers of fruit compote, honeyed malt and quiet richness.
Palate: Dark chocolate laced with sherry-soaked dried fruits gives way to roasted coffee and treacle toffee, unfolding in rich, evolving layers.
Finish: Long, evolving and deeply satisfying — a rare whisky that lingers, both in flavour and memory.
Why Add Glenfarclas 70 Year Old to Your Collection?
This is the oldest whisky Glenfarclas has ever released, drawn from one of only three surviving casks of the 1953 vintage — the number of casks that survive to 70 years and beyond is vanishingly small, as evaporation and time claim all but the most exceptional barrels. Distilled the same year Queen Elizabeth II was crowned and Everest was first summited, using barley malted on-site in a malt barn that has since been converted into Glenfarclas's tun room, this whisky was watched over by six different distillery managers across seven decades — a genuine testament to institutional continuity that only a handful of family-owned distilleries in the world could offer. Glenfarclas remains one of Scotland's last family-run distilleries, now in its fifth generation under the Grant family, and this release is presented in characteristically understated packaging — deliberately restrained, in the distillery's own words, to let the whisky "speak for itself" rather than lean on theatrical presentation. With only 262 bottles released globally, this sits alongside vanishingly rare age-statement releases from Speyside neighbours like The Macallan and The Balvenie, and represents one of the most significant whisky acquisition opportunities available anywhere — a genuine museum piece for the most serious collectors.
