The Cadenhead's Ardmore 11 Year Old — Original Collection is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky, independently bottled by Wm Cadenhead's, Scotland's oldest independent bottler. Distilled in 2012 at Ardmore — a distillery whose lightly peated malt is best known as the heart of Teacher's Highland Cream blended whisky — it was finished in casks seasoned with Pinot Noir since 2020, adding a jammy, dark fruit character to the whisky's signature smoke. Bottled at 46% ABV, natural colour and non-chill-filtered, it delivers meaty smoke, strawberry jam and caramelised sugar, offering a genuinely distinctive alternative to Ardmore's better-known official bottlings.

Cadenhead's Ardmore 11 Year OldTasting Notes.

Nose: Meaty, blown-out candle smoke with a bit of a beast about it, alongside smoked rhubarb and Turkish delight.

Palate: Sticky strawberry jam opens, followed by caramelised sugar, salty cured ham, wine gums and soft tannins.

Finish: Distant smoke, dried burnt embers and cloves, with red currants and black pepper lingering.

Why Choose Cadenhead's Ardmore 11 Year Old?

Ardmore is a genuinely unusual distillery — a large, Victorian-era Highland site producing a peated malt, a rarity for the region — but the vast majority of what it makes goes straight into blending, particularly as the backbone of Teacher's Highland Cream. That makes independent bottler releases like this one a comparatively rare chance to taste Ardmore's peated character as a genuine single malt rather than buried in a blend. Cadenhead's, Scotland's oldest independent bottler (founded 1842, now under the same ownership as Springbank and Kilkerran), took this particular cask and finished it in casks seasoned with Pinot Noir since 2020 — a deliberate choice that layers jammy, dark fruit character over Ardmore's usual woodsmoke and floral peat, distinct from the brand's other recent Ardmore releases finished in Marsala or Ruby Port casks. Bottled at a robust 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with natural colour, it's built to show the spirit honestly rather than smoothed over for mass appeal. A strong pick for whisky drinkers who want to explore Ardmore outside its usual blended context, or for fans of unconventional cask-finished single malts more broadly.

Cadenhead

Wm Cadenhead's Ltd is Scotland's oldest independent whisky bottler, founded in 1842 and now based in Campbeltown, under the same ownership as Springbank and Kilkerran Distillery. Rather than distilling its own spirit, Cadenhead's specialises in sourcing and bottling single-cask or small-batch whisky, gin, rum, cognac and other spirits from distilleries across Scotland and beyond, releasing them largely unadulterated — typically natural colour and non-chill-filtered — to show each cask's true character. The Original Collection, which includes this Ardmore, showcases a rotating range of single malts, often finished in secondary casks, giving whisky drinkers access to expressions and cask combinations the distilleries themselves rarely bottle under their own name.
