What sets Amber Lane Distillery apart in the Australian whisky scene?
Amber Lane Distillery was founded in 2017 in the Yarramalong Valley on the Central Coast of New South Wales. It began as a passion project between two friends, Rod Berry and Phil Townsend. Both shared a love of whisky and astronomy.
The distillery follows a traditional approach. It uses a 3,600-litre copper pot still, inspired by Springbank in Scotland. This still creates a spirit with depth and texture. Amber Lane also matures whisky in large-format barrels, including ex-Heaven Hill bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. These casks allow for slower, more refined ageing.
Unlike many newer producers, Amber Lane extends maturation well beyond the Australian average. Their small-batch releases and careful blending result in bold, elegant, and well-balanced whiskies.
In just a few years, Amber Lane has built a strong reputation. Their focus on quality, patience, and tradition sets them apart in the Australian whisky scene.
