Distilled in May 2014 and bottled at natural cask strength, “Embraced by Peat” (Cask 138.2) is a rare Taiwanese single cask release from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. With only 30 bottles allocated to the USA, this is an exceptionally scarce bottling that captures the intensity of Taiwan’s unique maturation climate.
SMWS 138.2 Embraced by Peat Tasting Notes
Nose: Soft peat introduces notes of brown butter, roasted nuts, heather ale, and fragrant herbs. With water, smoky lemons on the BBQ, violets, lapsang souchong, and a hint of swimming pools appear.
Palate: Big, drying smokiness with aniseed, smoked monkey nuts, rapeseed oil, and fennel seed. Dilution reveals a creamier, syrupy texture with marshmallow sweetness, juicy fruit chewing gum, orange oil, and dried mango.
Finish: Long, smoky, and sweet with evolving layers of fruit and spice.
