Gordon & MacPhail, Lochside 1981 40 Year Old
Distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2021, this extraordinary release spent 40 years maturing in a refill sherry hogshead before being bottled at 49.2% ABV. Non-chill filtered and natural in colour, it was drawn from a single cask yielding just 141 bottles worldwide, making it a rare and highly collectible expression from the now-closed Lochside Distillery.
Lochside Distillery
Lochside Distillery, located in Montrose on Scotland’s east coast, operated between 1957 and 1992 before its closure and eventual demolition. Known for producing both grain and malt whiskies, Lochside malts have become increasingly scarce and highly sought after. Independent bottlings such as this Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection release are now some of the only ways enthusiasts can experience this lost distillery’s spirit.
