Octomore 08.4 is a super-heavily peated single malt from Bruichladdich, renowned as the world’s most routinely peated whisky. Distilled from Scottish barley and bottled at a formidable 58.7% ABV, this 2018 release was matured for 8 years, with a unique cask composition: 20% spent its entire life in virgin oak casks, while the remaining 80% was first aged in first-fill bourbon barrels before being finished in virgin oak casks previously seasoned with Octomore 07.4. Limited to just 12,000 bottles, this expression showcases the depth and structure that comes from combining intense peat with fresh oak influence.
Bruichladdich Distillery
Founded in 1881 on the Rhinns of Islay, Bruichladdich is known for pushing the boundaries of Scotch whisky while honouring traditional methods. Since its revival by independent bottlers Murray McDavid in 2001, the distillery has developed three distinct spirit styles: unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte, and the super-heavily peated Octomore. Committed to transparency, provenance, and experimentation, Bruichladdich matures and bottles all its whisky on Islay and champions local barley and progressive techniques.
