Belgrove Peated Rye Whisky (2014 release)
This early Belgrove peated rye is a quintessential paddock-to-bottle Tasmanian original. Distiller–farmer Peter Bignell grew, malted, smoked and distilled the rye on site, then matured and bottled it by hand—capturing Belgrove’s trademark mix of raw authenticity and inventive craft. Peat smoke intertwines with bold rye spice to deliver a distinctive, darkly aromatic whisky that helped define Belgrove’s cult reputation.
Belgrove Distillery
Based in Kempton, Tasmania, Belgrove is Australia’s pioneering rye distillery and one of the world’s few truly self-sufficient grain-to-glass operations. Peter Bignell farms his own cereal, floor-malts on site, direct-fires the still, and runs an obsessively sustainable setup (right down to biodiesel equipment). The result is intensely characterful whisky with an unmistakable sense of place.
